I’m not scared of the Maos and the Stalins and the Hitlers. I’m scared of the thousands of millions of people that hallucinate them to be “authority”, and so do their bidding, and pay for their empires, and carry out their orders. I don’t care if there’s one looney with a stupid moustache. He’s not a threat if the people do not believe in “authority”. —Larken Rose

1109: David Nolan – LP Founder on the Libertarian Party

We have unfortunately created a little class of mini bureaucrats who are more concerned with keeping their jobs and perpetuating the institution as an institution and raising money than they are with spreading the message. When we started out our goal was to spread the word, it was sort of evangelical, to spread the word of liberty out to the world at large and we had people like Murray Rothbard and John Hospers and many other distinguished thinkers of that era involved in the party. Now we’re down to the level of people who are I think for the most part well intended, but when compared to those men are several orders down the intellectual scale and they are absorbed with minutia they are concerned with budgets, they are afraid to say anything that might scare people, that might keep people from voting for us. So it’s become a very timid organization in the past 6 or 8 years. —David NolanDownload Print Quality (5426×7680) 411KB  |  Normal Quality (2713×3840) 199KB

1108: John Stuart Mill – Dare to be Different

The mere example of nonconformity, the mere refusal to bend the knee to custom, is itself a service. Precisely because the tyranny of opinion is such as to make eccentricity a reproach. It is desirable, in order to break through that tyranny, that people should be eccentric. Eccentricity has always abounded when and where strength of character has abounded; and the amount of eccentricity in a society has generally been proportional to the amount of genius, mental vigour, and moral courage which it contained. —John Stuart MillDownload Print Quality (5426×7680) 321KB  |  Normal Quality (2713×3840) 152KB

1105: Jacob Hornberger – Dismantle not Reform Govt Agencies

The biggest threat to the American people today lies with the United States government. The long-term solution is to dismantle, not reform, the iron fist of the welfare state and the controlled economy. This includes the end (not the reform) of the IRS, the DEA, the BATF, the SEC, the FDA, HUD, the departments of HHS, Labor, Agriculture, and Energy, and every other agency that takes money from some and gives it to others or interferes with peaceful behavior. —Jacob HornbergerDownload Print Quality (5426×7680) 301KB  |  Normal Quality (2713×3840) 140KB
